Chartering and Insurance Enrollment F.A.Q.

Chartering

When can I charter my league for the 2019 Season?

Chartering and Insurance Enrollment for the 2019 Season opens at 9am ET on October 1, 2018 and closes on June 1, 2019.

Why don't I see the option to charter my league?

If your league has not yet chartered for this season, you should see a link on your Little League Data Center dashboard that says "Charter for the 2019 Season." If you do not see this option, it could be due to one of several reasons:

  1. Chartering and Insurance Enrollment may not have opened yet.  The application will be available on October 1, 2018 through June 1, 2019.
  2. You may not be allowed to charter for your league.  Only league presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, and treasurers may complete the Chartering and Insurance Enrollment process.
  3. Your league is on hold from the previous season.  Your league may be on hold for several reasons, including but not limited to carrying over a balance due from last season, not certifying that you completed the required background checks, lack of adequate proof of insurance, or another violation.
  4. If you are a Canadian league, please be aware that Canadian leagues do not charter via the Little League Data Center.
  5. Your charter application may have already been submitted for the current season.

What information do I need to complete the Chartering and Insurance Enrollment process?

It is very important that you update your league's officers prior to beginning the Chartering and Insurance Enrollment process.  Please make sure that you have added any newly elected officers, deleted any individuals who are no longer on your board, and confirmed that everyone's role and contact information are current.

You will also want to have the following at hand:

  • Your league president's name, mailing address, phone number, and email address.
  • The city, state/province, and postal/zip code in which your league is located.
  • The shipping address for your league.  This cannot be a post office box.
  • If you are electing to take liability insurance coverage through the AIG group insurance plan offered to Little Leagues, you'll want to have the coverage amount that you wish to take, as well as the legal name and address for any additional insureds that you want listed on the policy.
  • If you are electing to use your league's own local liability insurance coverage or your own local accident insurance coverage, you will need to have a digital version of your liability certificate, the insurance provider's name, and the effective dates of the coverage.

Do I need to save my progress as I go?

Your progress will be saved after you click the "Save and Continue" button on each page of the process.  Should you need to exit out of the application and come back at a later time, it will pick up where you left off.

What is "Minor - Coach/Machine Pitch?"

The Coach/Machine Pitch Division is an instructional level of play open to players league ages 5-11. Players ages 5 and 6 may participate at this level of play provided they have one year of Tee Ball experience.  Prior to the 2018 Season, the Minor - Coach/Machine Pitch Division and the Minor - Player Pitch Division had been combined in the Minor Division.

What if I don't know my exact team counts at this point in the season?

Enter your best estimates as to the number of teams you'll have in each division of play.  You can always update these numbers after your charter application has been approved, and your league will be charged or refunded accordingly.

What does a Charter Status of "Received, Under Review" mean?

Once your Charter and Insurance Enrollment application has been submitted, it may need reviewed and approved by Little League International if you are electing to use local liability or accident insurance coverage.  It will remain in the "Received, Under Review" status until  those items have been satisfactorily reviewed.

I've submitted my Charter Application, but I need to make changes to my team numbers.  How can I do this?

Once your Charter application has been submitted and approved, you can update your team counts until June 1, 2019 by clicking on the "Update Chartered Teams/Insurance" link on your league's Little League Data Center dashboard.

Insurance Enrollment

What is Liability Insurance?

Per Little League Regulation I (c) 7, General Liability insurance is mandatory for each league including its volunteers. The policy must have a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 single limit bodily injury and property damage. The policy must include coverage for claims involving each of the following: 1. Athletic Participants/Participant Legal Liability and 2. Sexual Abuse/Molestation.

If insurance is purchased through another insurance carrier, a copy of the policy with the minimum requirements above and naming Little League Baseball, Incorporated as an additional insured must be submitted to Little League International before your online charter/insurance enrollment application can be fully processed.

Please note that the Liability Insurance quote provided through the AIG Insurance for Little League includes enrollment in three (3) separate insurance policies that meet or exceed the Little League Regulations; 1. General Liability (GL), 2. Directors & Officers Liability (D&O) and 3. Cyber Liability.

What is Accident Insurance?

Per Little League Regulation I (c) 7, Accident Insurance coverage is mandatory for players on all league rosters as well as managers, coaches, and volunteer umpires. The policy must have a minimum coverage of $100,000 per person, per accident.

What is Crime Insurance?

Crime Insurance coverage through a member company of AIG is available to all Little League programs for a nominal fee of $250 per league. This coverage protects leagues against a monetary loss caused by dishonesty, disappearance of money, or other property as well as the burglary or theft of property. This coverage is optional but strongly recommended for leagues to consider enrolling in this program.

Which insurances am I required to have?

Per Little League Regulation I (c) 7, General Liability insurance is mandatory for each league including its volunteers. The policy must have a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 single limit bodily injury and property damage. The policy must include coverage for claims involving each of the following: 1. Athletic Participants/Participant Legal Liability and 2. Sexual Abuse/Molestation.

If liability insurance is purchased through another insurance carrier, a copy of the policy with the minimum requirements above and naming Little League Baseball, Incorporated as an additional insured must be submitted to Little League International before your online charter/insurance enrollment application can be fully processed.

Also, per Little League Regulation I (c) 7, Accident Insurance coverage is mandatory for players on all league rosters as well as managers, coaches, and volunteer umpires. The policy must have a minimum coverage of $100,000 per person, per accident.

If accident insurance is purchased through another insurance carrier, a copy of the policy with the minimum requirements above must be submitted to Little League International before your online charter/insurance enrollment application can be fully processed.

How are my Little League insurance fees calculated?

The liability insurance premiums are calculated based on the level of coverage elected, the number of teams you chartered last season, and any additional insureds that you may have.  If you did not have any chartered teams last season, then this season's team numbers are used.

The accident insurance premiums are calculated based on the state in which your league is located, the number of teams you chartered this season, and the level of play of each team.

The crime insurance premium is a flat fee.

What is an additional insured and how should they be listed on our policy?

For an additional premium, a local league may request to include a property owner as an Additional Insured on their General Liability Insurance policy. Most Additional Insured entities are outside interests such as individuals, cities, churches or corporations which may incur liability through the loaning, donating, or rental of that part of their owned premises used by the league. Be sure to list the property owner by their legal name.  For example, if a league uses a field at XYZ High School for games/practices, the Additional Insured would be "XYZ Area School District" since they are the legal property owner and not the physical location/name of the field or building.
